In this session we will explore what science education research says about the nature of science and how this impacts assessment of students understanding in science lessons. Examples will be given for a variety of topics, and time dedicated to proper discussion of what good assessment looks like and how this can be embedded within schemes of work. The workshop will provide examples, share best practice and end with a time to work on designing an assessment to check for specific misconceptions found in student focus groups and interviews.

This course is free of charge and led by Dan Crittenden, an IOP Teaching and Learning Coach based at Saffron Walden County High School. Tea, coffee and cake will be provided upon arrival.
