In this session, we will show how developing the stores and pathways model helps students to calculate changes in energy stores, as well as link these changes to calculations of power and efficiency. Limitations of the model are discussed as well as the common misconceptions about heating and temperature. We will reflect on the new IOP DOMAINS energy videos available here – particularly Building energy calculations from the ground up for 11-16 year olds, Introducing energy calculations and Energy calculations in action for 14-16 year olds. We would encourage you to watch these videos before the session.
Colleagues may wish to indicate specific issues that they would like to discuss using the ‘additional requirements’ box.
